Rutgers University Press Announces Partnership with Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music

September 18, 2024

Rutgers University Press is pleased to announce a publishing partnership with the Bruce

Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music (BSACAM).

The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music, located at Monmouth University

in West Long Branch, New Jersey, serves as the archival repository for Bruce Springsteen’s written

works, photographs, periodicals, and artifacts. The Center also preserves and promotes the legacy

of Bruce Springsteen and his role in American music, while creating exhibits, public programs,

and education initiatives that explore the works of American music giants like Woody Guthrie,

Robert Johnson, Billie Holiday, Patti Smith, Frank Sinatra, Muddy Waters, and others.

Peter Mickulas, executive editor at Rutgers University Press, will work with BSACAM executive

director Robert Santelli and curator Melissa Ziobro to publish books in the new series. He noted,

“We’re quite excited to formalize our relationship with the Springsteen Archives—the preeminent

center for archival research in New Jersey on popular music, including, of course that of New

Jersey’s own most famous son, Bruce Springsteen. Given Rutgers University Press’s deep backlist

of Springsteen scholarship, this collaboration makes perfect sense.”

“We are thrilled to begin this important collaboration with BSACAM and extend a partnership that

lifts both Rutgers and Monmouth Universities in building a community of scholars to produce and

publish significant books on American music and culture,” said Micah Kleit, director of Rutgers

University Press. “Given our shared commitment to advancing the work of the archives and

center’s collections, we are proud to partner with Monmouth on this important and exciting

venture.”

“The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University is

honored to partner with Rutgers University Press to present the very best books about American

music and, of course, Bruce Springsteen. We look forward to expanding the current catalogue as

well as offering a rich array of authors’ programs and special events at both universities”,

said Santelli.

Founded in 1936, Rutgers University Press is a nonprofit academic publishing house based in New

Brunswick, New Jersey, dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge to

scholars, students, and the general reading public. The Press has published a number of books on

Bruce Springsteen, most recently Bruce Songs: The Music of Bruce Springsteen, Album-by-Album,

Song-by-Song by Kenneth Womack and Kenneth L. Campbell and We Take Care of Our Own:

Faith, Class, and Politics in the Art of Bruce Springsteen by June Skinner Sawyers.
