Soundstage, a monthly on-line series presented by the Springsteen Archives and hosted by music historian Bob Santelli, explores new works, trends, and contemporary issues in American music. The series can be accessed via the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music website or via the Springsteen Archives’ Facebook page. Previous artists appearing on Soundstage include Nils Lofgren and David Sancious.
“Soundstage showcases new music, ideas, and trends in American popular music, starting with projects from members of the E Street Band,” said Santelli. “In this period of COVID, it’s re-assuring that exciting new music is still being made by artists like Garry Tallent, Nils Lofgren and David Sancious.”
Santelli added, “Like Garry Tallent, their friend and musical partner, Bob and Mike Delevante have firm musical roots in New Jersey. But even back when the brothers came of musical age in Hoboken, their interest in American roots music was deep and strong. It was only natural that they’d wind up in Nashville and that their music contain elements of country, folk, roots rock, and, Jersey soul.”
“Working with the Delevantes is always fun,” said Tallent. “Their taste in music is very similar to mine, so we always seem to hit it off, whether we’re playing live, which, unfortunately isn’t a lot these days, or in the studio.”
Born and raised in Rutherford, New Jersey, brothers Bob and Mike Delevante moved to Nashville in 1992, integrating themselves into the city’s thriving songwriting community. It was in Nashville where they met another transplanted New Jersey musician, E Street Band bass player Garry Tallent. The Delevantes and Tallent shared common musical interests and forged a relationship that continues today. Contributing production ideas in the studio and playing bass in the Delevantes band when not on the road with Bruce Springsteen, Tallent brings an added dimension to the Delevantes’ sound, a wonderful balance of roots music with seamless Everly Brothers-like harmonies.
